Does any one know of a store that sells the cokin systems in Australia?
Also if someone uses them now Id love to know, my main use will be for landscapes with the graduated ND filter, ideally with my 10-20mm lens, would the P system be big enough (no Vengetting) or should I go to the z-pro series?
thanks

I just picked up the 'P' series myself (moved from 'A') and it covers my lens with the 72mm just fine. It appears to cover the 77mm (10-20 Sigma) as well, although I haven't used the Cokin filters with that lens yet.
Cokin also makes a filter holder specifically for WA lenses - basically it's the filter holder with only one slot. I bought mine at B&H recently.
The downside to the 'P' filters currently; good luck finding any Grey ND Grad filters - they're all backordered everywhere!

I can't give you an answer yet, but if you're willing to wait a week or two then I can advise on the vignetting question and maybe even send you some sample photos. I've got a whole lot of gear on order (replacing all my current gear after it was stolen), including Cokin P holders (most of my filters weren't stolen, just the rings/holders) and a 10-20mm lens. I didn't have a 10-20mm lens before so can't comment yet (the only good thing about having your gear stolen is that at least you can change your lens lineup).
Did you find somewhere local to get your filters? I don't know any of the shops in Brisbane, but Madsens (aka //www.filtershop.com.au seem to have a good range and handle online ordering, and Vanbar have a fair bit listed (not sure how much stock they have, haven't visited them for a while).

thanks guys,
some good suggestions, I think I will wait, just to be sure. Id rather get the smaller p series than the z-pro if I don't need the extra size.
bugger about loosing your gear thou. I ended up calling Ted's and they can get them in. I saw madsens but wasn't impressed by their site( thought it looked dodgy)
I didn't know they had a slimline version so Ill look in to that. bit of a worry about the wait thou :)
Thanks again

Nope, not big enough. I found that I could see the holder on my 10-22 lens (at least towards the 10 mm if I remember correctly). However, I haven't bothered to buy any other holders/systems, because I don't use it all THAT often and found that I was able to simply hand-hold the filter in front of the lens quite easily, even without using a tripod.
Edited to add this example:

ND 4 and thanks :-)
When we move back home to Brisbane, I'll be checking in with you where to go shopping for camera gear (we have been in the US for 5 1/2 years now). |

I already had the filters, it was the camera/lens/holder I was waiting for! I've just picked up the camera and the first few lenses on Sunday, a little later than I had originally hoped (some lenses still on backorder) - so sorry about the delay.
Anyway - to give you the info you want. All the following based on a Pentax K10D (APS-C sized sensor) - which reminds me, better update my DPC equipment list!
With Sigma EX 10-20mm lens and Cokin P wide-angle filter holder:
- No vignetting at 20mm (no surprise there).
- Slight vignetting at 10mm if the filter holder is at the right (or should that be wrong) angle.
With Sigma EX 10-20mm lens, Hoya PRO1 UV filter and Cokin P wide-angle filter holder:
- No vignetting at 20mm.
- Noticeable vignetting at 10mm unless the filter holder is absolutely straight.
If you're planning to use graduated filters or a polariser at 10mm, then I think you need to go with X-PRO. If you're only using filters at the wider angles, or the filters you're using at 10mm are non-graduated (e.g. warming), then you might be able to get away with P series.

fantastic info, thanks paddles. My goal really is to use it at sunrises with at least one ND filter at 10mm, So it looks like the X-pro series for me. Shame their almost 3 times the price :)
Congrats on the new equipment :) BTW

| Just my two cents, I use the P-series filters and rarely have any vignetting problems. I have an extra filter holder that is dremmelled off two of the filter slots so there is only one left to hold a filter. I have no problems with vignetting at 10 mm. I sometimes use a cokin polarizer filter in the single slot and will just hold a GND filter by hand to get extra coverage. IMO I would go for the P-series. The Z-holder is expensive and the filter are three times the cost I think. So you could have 3 times as many filters and on occasion have to shoot at 11 or 12 mm when using more than one filter or go for the z series and have full coverage and spend hundreds of dollars more for the same filter set. If you are using your cokin filter for landscapes you are probably using a tripod. If you want more filters in front of your lens, just hand hold them and you will also get full coverage at 10 mm. Just my two cents. :) |

oohhh now that is a tease. You have the same camera as I do and the same lense as well. I guess I should go with the P series and at worst get down to 12mm or 11mm
After all like you said, its a few hundred dollars difference, so worth a punt |
