I just passed the 20,000 picture mark on my Nikon D70s, and at every 10,000 pictures it starts counting over, putting any pictures you've got on the card into separate folders depending upon whether you took them before or after the 10,000 rollover. I forgot about this feature since the last time, and I reformated my compact flash before making sure all my pictures were downloaded onto my computer, and lost about 100 I took for the Point of View challenge. I tried the recovery software that came with card - a Sandisk Extreme III 2.0 GB (I actually have two of these, and I'm not even sure which it is, so can't shoot again until I figure this out). It didn't work, and reported an error in the card saying "Cannot read media. Some digital devices overwrite deleted files with zeros. If this occurs, then files cannot be recovered. There is no work around for this."

Does anyone have any experience with this? Is it true that these files cannot be recovered?

When I downloaded this program and tried to run it, I got the message "runtime error 339. A file is missing."

//www.z-a-recovery.com/ I used this to get some files back, it recovered everything that had not been re-written over. I just followed the tutorial. Hope it helps
ETA:If it works, you may want to send the original to make sure it can be validated for originality.

No luck. Unrecoverable data. Thanks, anyway. I appreciate the help.
