I just ordered the Tamron SP AF 90mm f/2.8 DI 1:1 Macro Lens and by all the reviews I found its suppose to be a great lens.

I also like the idea of having a 90mm Prime w00t.

Does anyone here have any feedback on it?

Another question, I have never used extention tubes, will they work with it?

Thanks

Not personally. I was looking at getting one once upon a time so would be interested to hear your thoughts on it.

I read a review on photozone about it and I think they said it was a great lens, but it does extend a fair bit at full magnification which I think is the only negative they really had on it.

Enjoy it! How much did it cost you btw and from where if you dont mind my asking?

Extension tubes (assuming compatible mounts) should work with any lens. All they do is move the lens further away from the focal plane (the sensor). And in so doing, allow you to focus closer to the subject (trading away the ability to focus at infinity). The longer the extension tube, the closer you can focus.

The nice thing is that it doesn't change the optics of your lens in any way. Meaning, you're not putting a new piece of glass in the light path. So high quality glass remains high quality glass.

It's a great lens. You will be really pleased with it. Very light and quick to focus. If you have plenty of light you can get away with hand held close ups, but for super sharp stuff try and use a tripod. I think that IreneM's work is a shining example of what this lens can do.

Enjoy it.

Cost was about $AU430.00 Plus postage on ebay... I had to pay an extra $10 to buy from a Paypal dealer because that is where my play money is :)

You will enjoy this lens. as for extension tubes. You wont really need to get much closer, and if you do, You will need a tripod to stay sharp. I spent the past few days shooting with mine for the macro challenge. I didn't get the shot I wanted but it was more due to lack of ideas vs the lens. Have fun with the new toy.

I've had this lens on Minolta and loved it. I've also used it with extension tubes for even more magnification.

I've recently replaced all my gear (after it was stolen) - changed several of the lenses I had, but , I used the opportunity to revise my lens collection and get different lenses. But the Tamron 90mm is one that I didn't change. Just got it on Sunday, looking forward to using it. :)
