Notify the science journal Jeff's been cloned--six times I fear.

Sooo....

Remember the Team Suck interviews where you were asked what was the strangest thing you've done for a challenge?

I think I've got a new one.....but it wasn't just strange, it was FUN!!!

I got such a lukewarm reception to my Half entry that I kinda forgot what I did to enter, and Don asked me a question in a PM and suggested that I not only answer the question, but explain what I did.

What I did was grab half a mannequin from a friend of mine and took off for the afternoon.

Ya know.....people give you funny looks after they've said that you can take pictures when you open up the trunk, get a half a mannequin out, and wander off with it.

It was fun!

I thought it was pretty imaginative and a cool result, Jeb.

Does anyone know why the voting period on challenges is soooooo long? Makes sense on Free Studys but doesn't quite make sense to me on the short challenges.

PS..I'm behind on TS comments but will try to catch up soon. BIG test coming up on Monday for my new job and Mom's 85th birthday on Saturday.

I wish they would have voting until vote numbers (on average per image) reached a certain level, maybe equal to a minimum number or, for something like the free studies, to the number of entries.

I've had images where my score changed by .05 with one vote when my vote total was between 125 and 150 votes just prior to the end of the challenge. That says to me enough people aren't voting (the sway of each vote should not be that much in the end). I've been told 200 is the magic number, but I don't believe it (I think it'd have to be higher to really even out the voting statistically).

A lot of the meaning in life boils down to this for me. I was able to give this to a dear friend. This is her daughter.....she'll have it forever. I'm able to capture an image like this in part because of what I've learned here. In part, I blame you guys .

Thank you

I'll echo that. Sweetness in photography is having my grandfather call me to ask for a print of a portrait of my daughter that he saw at my Dad's.

Hear, hear! And Jeff, thanks so much for the great tutorial, I just printed it out so I can finally put together a 'pool party' scene at a client's house...imagine a pool with ponies swimming in it, donkeys sunning themsleves, Brio in a bikini (diving board maybe?) and a Clyde sipping a can of Bud. Can't wait!!!!

You will share this with us, won't you? Pretty please with sugar on top?

P.S. I agree, Jeffrey, I already posted in the tutorial thread, but it deserves saying again . . . really good stuff there . . .

For those of us shooting Nikon (and all those who shoot something else, which means they WISH they shot Nikon...)

Check out some early test images with the D3 HERE.

Love your half outtakes, Jeb. Quite humorous.

Can anyone tell me how to do one of those shots where the subject is also reflected in a mirror? I'm not sure how to set up lighting on this kind of shot.

We have now exchanged contracts on our new house - which for those non-uk residents means that it's legally oblidged to carry through to sale now. So on the 31st we'll be moving in to a new house. woot!

Congrats!

For myself, I seem to have stumbled into something good in Fauna. I actually hope it doesn't climb onto my top row, though, for reasons that will be clear after it's over.

I have been debating taking a small break from DPC, and the last 2 comments I received (one each for Flora and Searching) have really cemented that in my mind. I am out of motivation and out of ideas. Hopefully the break will be a small one, but no way to say right now. I will continue to lurk, so my fellow suckers will still be on my mind.

Oh, PLEASE don't do that!

Just take a break from submitting when it doesn't feel just right.

I'm going through a slightly frustrating spell after just being in four challenges in a row.....I got nothin' for any challenge currently running.

What I've discovered is that if I resist the urge to enter just 'cause I think I should participate, my scores average better and I feel better about my work.

I got embroiled in a thread a few ago, the gist of which was that people need to get thicker skins when it comes to comments.

My own personal opinion is that people shouldn't be cruel, heartless, and insensitive.

I was pretty much told to get over it.

And the bottom line is......these comments are way more of a reflection on the commenter than the recipient.

You do nice work, and you're obviously a good person.....I love that adage on your profile page:"Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.".

Don't go away!

Hey Barbara - check out my latest run if you want to see some not-so-great entries with a few scathing comments thrown in. I should take a break, too, but it's hard to do that - the place is addicting. But do keep shooting - play in the side challenges, maybe.
