While I was saying that pencils are not made of lead, she posted that graphite was okay as well. :)

You are not alone.
I give lots of 1s and 2s (at least I say so), but still my avg vote cast is around 6. The reason is I give lots of 10s and 9s too. And the thing that I reward most is creativity and originality. If something seems original and creative it gets 10s or 9s from me. It may have technical flaws but I do not punish for it. Because being creative is hardest thing to do. And it shall be promoted.
For this reason mindless repeats of the previous challenges do get lower votes from me.
