I just found there is such a thing! Does this work in terms of auto focus? This might solve my tele lens problem as I would love the Nikon 18-200 VR - can I use that lens on a 40D with this adapter?

My understanding is you get an "in focus" confirmation but you still have to manual focus the lens itself.

Perhaps there is more than one version, but the one I found at Adorama says:
Allows the use of Nikon F, and AI (Non Autofocus) lenses on the Canon EOS 35mm and Digital Cameras. Design permits sharp focus to infinity. Lenses must be used in manual focus and exposure mode.

So it's back to the Tamron 18-200 or 18-250.

I would assume you are correct, since most Nikon AF lenses depend on an in-camera focusing motor.

I am not sure that the focusing motors and cpu's in the lenses and cameras speak the smae language, which may be the hang up with autofocus using the adapter.

Definitely no AF using an adapter. I own an adapter for Nikon glass, though I don't own any Nikon glass at the mo... I used to occasionally borrow Nikon telephoto lenses from a former co-worker.

Would the VR even have a chance to work through an adaptor? I can't see that as likely.

Does the auto aperture stop down work with the adapter and Ai lenses, or do you have to focus stopped down, or manually stop down when you shoot?
