Man, who would have guessed I'd have a new friend on Macro week? Anyway, would like to PM a few questions for people who have tried to keep insects before. (Won't give away what since I'm likely to be shooting her all week.)

I'm currently keeping a pair of Strategus antaeus (Ox Beetles) and hopefully a bunch of grubs. And you already know that I'm a caterpillar keeper.
Edit: Depending on what you have, I can put in you touch with the right expert.

ah, it must be a monarch? ;) I had one in possession a few weeks back but let it back out. Found her out cold on the cold road one early morning. My 2nd attempt at keeping a butterfly. I've tried keeping ladybugs and they keep well. None died on me and actually had attempts at multiplying. Otherwise I don't have any experience with other kinds. There might be some tips on this site //www.insectstore.com/index.php and/or search for Igor Siwanowicz and contact him. |

Don't worry about giving DrAchoo ladybug advice. He usually just glues them to a piece of cardboard. |

That was in my early, crazy days. :) I haven't lost many bugs since and they do look better when they are alive...(although there was no way in hell I was getting that shot without glue. ;))

I can only think of one insect (but it's not really a insect) that I know I can identify as a "her". I look forward to your "timely?" pictures. |

Currently I have a pair of stink bugs trapped in my reptile tank. They've been there for a few weeks now. Many bugs are quite amazing. I once kept a small beetle in a plastic film case. Forgot about it. Packed it away.
Maybe a year or two later I found it. Heard something rattling in it and was like "what's that?". Opened it up and poured out it's contents. A small dead beetle landed on the paper. Or so I thought....
A couple of minutes went by and it began to move and crawl. I mean we're talking nearly 2 years trapped in a plastic film container and surviving.
"The meek shall inherit the earth." God just didn't tell us the meek had exo-skeletons! |

Really kinda depends what type it is to know how to keep it, just look it up and read about thier habitat and what they eat. A sponge soaked with water will help alot of insects with water, crickets will nibble on quick oats, potato peelings. Somewhere to hide, or nest. Should be easy to find info. Good luck. |
