Today I was doing some football portraits in a sunny football field and they were coming out dark at ISO 100 shutter 1/200. In order to get anything (in Manual mode) I had to set the ISO to 800 and the shutter speed to 1/15 in bright sunshine! About 1/2 way through the shoot the shots started getting over exposed! I flipped into Auto mode to see if that would help. The Flash Went Off on all the shots!!!
I've only had the camera 1 year ... bought it when my 300D blew a sensor after 1 year of use!!! Is this a Canon problem? What is the problem? Thankfully I have extended (3 and 2 year) warranties on both cameras! |

| Did you check and make sure that you don't have exposure compensation dialed to underexpose? |

LOL I did have the lens cap off!
trevytrev the settings are all correct... I double and triple checked everything. It happened the other night at the football game but I flipped over to TV mode and it worked fine for the whole game. I will check the exposure compensation again .. but I don't ever recall changing that setting.

| I'm curious to know if you find out what the problem is or was. Also what apature were you shooting? If you were at f16 or higher this could pose a problem as well even on a sunny day at low ISO. GL and post what you find! |

Post one of the images with the EXIF data intact. (i.e. don't strip the EXIF data before you upload)

| Ok .. strangest thing ever .. I think a kiddo was messing with my camera! I checked the apeture and it was set at 30!!!!! I know darn well I pretty much stay on 5.6 so have no idea who was monkeying with my camera. I'll do more test shots because the problem did seem to come and go so I'm not completely sure it is resolved. |

| I would say f/30 would be a problem, I bet you have great DOF though...lol. |

I'm sure the DOF would be wonderful if you could see anything in the picture lol
It still doesn't explain why my flash was firing in bright sunshine today in Auto mode though.

True, but I also bet you'll find that the shots are all somewhat soft. At f/30, diffraction will limit the resolution more than the lens or sensor, and the results will probably be not entirely pleasing. |
