Our friends' parents were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and our friends arranged for the whole family to fly in for a week of fun. I was lucky to be invited on several occasions as the official photographer. One big event they had planned was a photo safari in San Diego's Wild Animal Park. We filled up two trucks and got to drive through the park, getting up close to many animals and downright personal with the giraffes and rhinos. They had special food biscuits we fed the giraffes and we fed the rhinos apple pieces. In the back of the truck with us was a special guide who showed us how to feed the animals and gave us specific instructions on how to keep them out of the truck and also told us NEVER to actually touch the giraffes. They are quite skittish and a startled giraffe whipping around an 80 pound head could cause some damage, even if unintended. At this particular encounter, the giraffe 'forgot' that he wasn't supposed to come in the truck and the woman was holding the biscuit quite close to her rather than pushing it out of the truck for the giraffe to take as the guide had shown us. The rest was just point and shoot.

I knew the oops challenge when I went to the park that morning and I knew with 21 people and a way whole bunch of unpredictable animals I should get at least one oops shot. I wasn't disappointed.

I had another shot I liked as well or better, but I wasn't sure if it would get an "oops" or not, so I chose to enter the one I did. I realize the words are against the rules, but assume they aren't there -- how do you think this would do in the oops challenge?

On a couple other days, I came and set up at their home to shoot portraits of the whole family, which was real fun for me. This is the portrait I took of the anniversary couple. I'd like your honest opinion. I'd like to really get into portrait photography and I value any help I can get.

I'm on the west coast -- 3 AM is only Midnight. We had just got back from the ballgame, and yes, I wanted to see how I did!

You were right not to enter it in this challenge, because it really isn't an "oops," but Holy Giraffe! That is a fantastic shot!

That's what I thought would be the reaction, but think about it -- a giraffe sticks his nose in your face -- you don't say "OOPS!"? Still, my instinct was right to go with the other pic -- that and I asked a friend before posting :)

Congrats. I liked that shot - gave it an 8. Fitted the theme well and was nicely executed.

The giraffe shot that you did submit was fantastic, the expression on the woman and that tongue sticking out were just great, certainly the better choice IMO.

Check out this cool site. You mean like that.

Are you using the link button on the message line. When you type or copy the link onto the line push ok and it gives you a chance to rename the link. Try it.

Hey -- it was very cool, creative, and really well done!

(Plus, I beat it score-wise, so there's no jealousy involved. :) Hee hee...just kiddin'!)

Great job to you, sir.
