Hi. Newbie to Adobe Lightroom here...

There's a few tools I didn't have with RSE 2006 that are fun to use but I wonder if they are legal for challenges.

Questions pertain to RAW file manipulations.

First one for now is the 'Lens Vignetting' under 'Lens Corrections'
- is this legal for Basic Editing?

Thanks.

Maybe nobody dares answer the question.... I don't think there has been a ruling on that yet.

As raw converters become more powerful (not only vignetting, but red eye reduction, cloning, etc), it'll be interesting when restrictions start getting made on what you can and can't do during raw conversion.

I believe the answer currently is that you can use it to correct vignetting that appears in your photograph, but not to add it.

"You may:

use RAW conversion software as long as the changes are made globally to a single file on one layer and do not create new features or effects in the process."

I just sent this to the SC just yesterday:

I'm editing a picture using Lightroom for the first time. Are there limits in basic editing as to what reatures of Lightroom I can use? Looking at it, it looks like everything in lightroom is either available in ACR, or is very similar to something that's legal in PS, but I just want to make sure.

and I got this back from kirbic:

Hi Ann,
All of the Lightroom features are Basic-legal, except two, which are legal *only* if used purely in a corrective manner. Those two features are:
- Vignetting correction
- Chromatic Aberration (CA) correction
Adding a vignette, or darkening an existing one, is illegal in Basic, but removing one is legal (corrective, and thus falls under "preserve integrity"). Removing CA with the sliders and/or "defringe" is legal, but adding an effect by intentionally maladjustment of the sliders would be illegal.
