Whats up friends.. i'm looking to get a flash unit for my New Nikon D80.. i'm not really familiar with flash photography but i'm going to start learning. Just wondering if anyone had an suggestions on a decent flash unit for me to pick up. I think i'll perfer a detachable flash unit, with a remote sensor so i can put it behind umbrellas and all that.

i'll be doing band pics, portraits, models all that kind of stuff.

suggestions would be appreciated

thanks
Maverick.

If you're a beginner to flash, the SB-600 is a good bet.

Get the SB-800 if money isn't an object.

Well, ultimately, get an SB-800 to act as the commander and then get as many SB-600s as your wallet can afford. I currently have one SB-800 and two SB-600s and it is a great combination. You can set up the SB-600s in umbrellas or on stands or on the ground and the SB-800 will set the 600s off and also provide light into the photo. It's pretty awesome how they all work together.

Good luck.

It would appear that the D80 will control two groups of flashes with the pop-up on the camera. So you could get one or two SB600s to start out or get a SB800 first and use it off camera and then a SB600 to go with it. Check pages 95 and 96 in your PDF manual. I think that covers the subject.

The new rayovac "hybrid" NiMH batteries have become my choice lately. Not as high MaH ratings, but they hold thier charge unlike most NiMH or even L-ION batteries.
