Hey everyone,
i was looking to upgrade my macro lens, and wanting to go for an internal focus lens, my only issue is that i looked on //www.photozone.de/8Reviews/lenses/nikkor_105_28vr/index.htm and it said that when shooting at lifesize macro it drops the aperture down to 4.8 automatically. First off, is this true?, Second, is this an issue for owners of the lens? and thirdly, why is that necessary?

Thanks,
Ryand

edit: to fix link

1.) Yup, true.
2.) You will normally be shooting at f/11 or f/16 when at 1:1, and even then the DoF will be extremely narrow. In short it will not be an issue.
3.) It's not actually closing down the aperture. It's like a zoom lens, where the minimum f ratio increases as zoom is increased (even though the physical aperture remains the same size). With this lens, as focus is changed, the effective aperture changes. That's common wit macro lenses; many don't report this change, the Nikkor does. Kudos, Nikon.

Bottom line, Nikon's macro lenses have a stellar reputation, and were I a Nikon shooter, I would most likely own this lens.
