1.) Yup, true.
2.) You will normally be shooting at f/11 or f/16 when at 1:1, and even then the DoF will be extremely narrow. In short it will not be an issue.
3.) It's not actually closing down the aperture. It's like a zoom lens, where the minimum f ratio increases as zoom is increased (even though the physical aperture remains the same size). With this lens, as focus is changed, the effective aperture changes. That's common wit macro lenses; many don't report this change, the Nikkor does. Kudos, Nikon.
Bottom line, Nikon's macro lenses have a stellar reputation, and were I a Nikon shooter, I would most likely own this lens.
