I just started doing research on a compact for my wife.
Basically, she wants it to be
small
thin
big screen (relative to the size of the camera)
decent megapix 6+
decent mpg
and comes in many colors, not just black silver red (this one is not that important)
If anyone has a suggestions based on having one or from friends enjoying them, let me know!
Thanks |

This one doesn't quite meet the criteria of small or thin. It's like a mini-DSLR. The flip-out LCD is the bomb, though. |

Casio makes a great camera that fits your requirements BUT- THEIR SERVICE IS INDIFFERENT AND ALMOST NON-EXISTENT. THEY HAVE KNOWN DESIGN FLAWS (LENS ERRORS)THAT THEY WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE. AVOID CASIOS.
Canon on the other hand has service that cannot be beat. They are incredible.

Why don't you tell us what you really think about Casio?
Canon's service has its share of detractors as well, it's hit or miss.
That said, the Canon Digital ELPH cameras rock. |

That's what I got too, for the versatility -- it does an incredible number of things pretty well, but nothing (except maybe extreme macros) really well. Closed up, it's about the size of an old-fashioned 35mm viewfinder camera. |

The s3 or now, the s5, is a great camera if it matches your wife's wants/needs. It's not a really small camera, it takes up a lot of space and if she just wants to go around taking snaps of the kids, and have a camera that can easily go in her purse, there are better choices. |
