Getting a new computer and was wondering in anyone runs XP media Centre. I had the choice of Vista Premium (or XP MC).
The specs of the machine are ok (dual processor 2.6, 4G Ram, 500G+ 200G HD etc) but we also run a TV card through the machine.
Vista seems to have problems - for everybody who says its great - three more say they have problems. Therefore I decided to stick with XP (so all existing programs will continue to run). I will pay for an upgrade of Vista in a year or two when I get new programs and Vista settles down.
I was advised to get XP Media Centre. It's suppose to have the same shell as XP (therefore existing programs will run) but also has the media functions for TV etc.
Does anyone have XP Media Centre? Does it run PS CS2 and older programs ok ? Is it an ok operating system ? (I have been very happy with XP home which I run on the existing dying machine)

I've never run XP MC personally, but it is (like you said) basically the same operating system as XP Pro with the extra bells and whistles thrown in for all your media needs. It's plenty secure and should be much more hassle free than Vista. I'm running vista now, but to be honest I'd rather be on XP and I don't see any reason why XPMC wouldn't do a great job with PS or anything else.

Thanks for the quick reply Ben.
Is there any reason you were unhappy with Vista ? Is it buggy or couldn't you run older programs ?

I am currently running XP MC - no problems at all. System is very stable. I don't use the media center app itself much, but have and it seems to work fine. Just a fancy interface to all media applications.

I am running Win MC as well. I have not had a single problem.
It looks and acts like XP.
All software that I ran on XP is compatible with MC.
I run:
Photoshop CS2
Photomatrix Pro
Canon Professional 1.6
RawShooters Essentials 2006
DreamWeaver 8
Flash
WAMP
Office Professional
all while having Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 running in the background. It updates every hour, looks for viruses/trojans/mailware/spyware/checks my POP3 email for spam/and much more.

And my system and Internet does not slow down at all. And your system seems to be a little faster than mine.
Hardware wise I have:
Intel Core 2 CPU
6400 @ 2.13 GHz
2.29 GHz, 2GB of Ram
250 GB Internal HD
1 TB External HD
Radeon X1900 GT dual DVI output 256mb video card

I also run XP media center. Besides some of which was already mentioned I use Adobe Ligtroom 1.2 It is a very stable OS and has met my needs very well.

System (laptop)
Pentium M 750 2.0 ghz
1GB of Ram
160 GB (5400rpm) internal
Radeon x700 256mb graphics memory

It works Great!

Vista itself wasn't particularly buggy for me, but I had an issue where one game I was trying to run wouldn't work. The drivers I had also weren't the greatest so my sounds crackled but that was pretty minimal. I'd had some other problems as well, but they turned out to be hardware related and Dell's fault. So really vista isn't bad really, but it isn't great either.
