Hi to everyone,I have a new camera and a new software for raw development. This software is DPP that is in the canon cd. I have a simple question about this software, i.e. the raw files that are developed with DPP are original for the dpc policy?

yes, RAW files are always acceptable. JPGs, in particular, need to be copied and stored in a specific manner.

note that for DPCPrints, you can make any modifications you like to your images. we only review the "legality" of original images for DPC challenges.

I think that what Rino63 is asking is , is the file converted in DPP acceptable for verification. In this case it would be NO because the ORIGINAL RAW file UNCONVERTED would need to be submitted for verification.

Just thought I would clarify that. :-)

yes, this is my question. raw shooter essentials, that I actually use, have a not destructive conversion. this means that the raw file isn't changed and is still an original. Probably DPP work in the same way. other softwares change the original file. For the transfer from the camera I use the simple copy and paste with a card reader.

There's no way to "save" a CRW file with any software, so I don't think the RAW file itself can be altered by conversion. Any changes made are saved as a separate "sidecar" file, not in the CRW itself. The CRW file will always be your original, and it shouldn't matter if you opened it with DPP, PS, etc.- the file won't change.

An amusing aside.....when, and if, I have to validate a file, I have to load it into my daughter's laptop and drive to civilization to upload it as a 5MB file will *never* make it outta the dialup at my house.

Note to self... request validation on all of NikonJeb's entries, then claim we didn't receive them...

;-P

I think I would have one of the highest amount of validation requests (not including ribbons) and in the last couple of years, as far as I am aware, they have all been Canon RAW files that have gone through alterations in DPP. Therefore they have been uploaded with the DPP adjustments...and they have passed validation. Any DQ's I have had, have been due to processing errors in Adobe.
