Sometimes I get blemishes on my shots. Can anyone tell me why this is happening?

Most of the time, it happens on blue skies.

Is it that my sensor is dirty? is it my lense?

More than likely it is your sensor. You can clean it.

If the blemishes are consistently in the same places, regardless of lens used, then I'd say it's a dirty sensor. If they only occur with specific lenses, then I'd say the lenses are dirty.
Does the XT have the "dust delete data" option? The XTi does, and it will take a picture, analyze it for blemishes, then embed data to compensate for them, but that only works if it's your sensor.
