Anything I can do to help. I would comment on more pics but stuck on dial up it's really hard to do! I love the pic of the day deal because it's so easy!!! |

Heh thanks faidoi, I just got back off holiday and read your pm. I'm sorry to see the potd is dead :(
To answer some questions left in the comments:
Yes I shot with the camera at an angle - I think it gives the shot more energy, though I agree that that particular angle is maybe too much. Nowadays I shoot at 15 degrees or so.
The camera was manually pre-focused on the track in front of me.
I think the crop was so tight because I only just got the car in the frame!
As for a howto ... pre focus on the track in front of you, pick up a car as soon as you can and follow it smoothly until it's beyond you (following through is important to keep your movement smooth). When it reaches the point you focused on, push the button (allowing a little for shutter lag). Start with a shutter speed of 1/200s or faster and work your way down to 1/100s - 1/50s as you get better.
Most importantly, practice *lots* and shoot lots.
Thanks for all the comments! : )
Now, who do I shoot for setting a sports challenge when I'm on me hols! grrr...
