I get what you're saying, basic forces me to be creative during shooting. That's more of a challenge for me and why I've become a member. On the other hand editing is a skill of it's own that many artists prefer. |

Look at the challenges page and you'll see that other than the free study and this week's rare advanced editing in open challenges, that actually 4 of the 7 now in voting or recently concluded used basic editing.
The norm continues of each week having one advanced editing member challenge and two basic editing exclusive open challenges.
You happened to look during a week when:
a) there's a free study, which is a member challenge, so is always advanced or expert editing
b) DPC is offering advanced editing on the exclusive open challenges - they do every once in a long while (think months) to help non-paying folks understand one of the benefits of paying. But those are normally basic editing.
Advanced editing hardly "rarely crept in" for the 16 months I've been a member. At least for that span, Sunday's member challenges have always used that editing set, except for the rare cases when expert has been used

I kind of agree with you, it does seem that there are more advanced challenges than before. I'd love to see another minimal editing challenge. We've had way more expert challenges than minimal and I think it's time!

Hear, hear! I love minimal editing challenges, as I try to do most of my work in-camera. It's long past due for one. |
