Hello,

Can anyone tell me or show me a pic of an ATA hard disk vs. an IDE hard disk...(really need to see the "plug" difference).

2.5" if possible..although size doesn't really matter !

From what I know IDE and ATA are the same interface. Don't you mean PATA and SATA?

IDE == ATA.

Did you mean SATA (Serial ATA)?

Here are some Wikipedia articles with pictures, Parallel ATA (PATA) and Serial ATA (SATA).

What is the basic type drive that comes out of a toshiba or dell laptop?

Is it the IDE / ATA type?

Is this a correct adapter to put my old 2.5" disk in?

older ones - yes. Newer ones have sata.

Yeah, how old is the lappy? Or better yet, what make/model is it?

If you are looking to take laptop hard drive out and hook it up to desktop this seem to be right device.
