Well, I was looking for something to enter for the Free Study this month (it's coming down to it, isn't it?) I found this HDR TIF left over and worked on it before I realized I didn't have the RAW anymore.

So what do you think? Those stars legal? I specifically picked noise pixels and dodged them. It seems from the impressionism challenge that this would fly...

I don't know, Doc...I have to think the stars look like an added feature, but understand what you're getting at considering some of the textures in the impressionism challenge.

BTW - sorry you don't have the RAW file anymore, as this is a stunning photo with or without the stars!

Edit to add: I actually prefer the version without the stars anyway. They look like the brush you chose to enhance the pixels was a little too soft so they aren't quite real looking.

Thanks, I had originally shot the pics for the Closing challenge, but none of them looked any good with basic editing so I pitched the folder. Then I remembered, doh!, I could use it in FS...

The stars thing is only half serious (but only half kidding). It does seem like the logical conclusion to some of the stuff bandied around in that impressionism thread...

Legality I can't answer, but all in all they're pretty cool :)
I think the prob for me is that the average brightness doesn't fade toward the light.
I've gotta find a shot and give the technique a try... it won't be any good, but I just might learn something :)

The stars look a bit forced especially close to the sun where the contrast would/should be lower and the stars would be harder to see.

The only thing that bugs me is the power lines. The detail's too clean!

Based on the results of the impressionism challenge, it's inconceivable to me that these stars would not be legal. But good luck getting an answer that's definitive, since this isn't entered in any challenge.

IMO it looks better without the stars :)

I'm with Ursula Jason. But in any case it would not have been up to your caliber anyway. I know you have a better shot in this months archive somewhere!

I like it without the stars but, with the stars if you can remove the glow effect on them, and leave out some. I think it would be better.

Out of curiousity, why are you deleting originals in the first place?

Cuz I thought there wasn't anything good in there. :) You can't keep everything because quickly you get overwhelmed with pictures.

Ya, I think this particular way of bringing out stars was poor overall. Just trying things out though.

Why "ouch"? I didn't mean anything nasty by saying that. I must be getting into language trouble again :(

I think it's that menacing glow rod you wave around.

Naw, nothing like that. I thought we had some gentle jibing going on here.
