When mine took a dip in the ocean in June, I sent mine to Melsville NY. The service was very good - quick to assess, quick to repair, quick to ship. It took about 2 weeks from shipment to Nikon until I got it back.

Wow...i'm glad i never had to send my old CP5000 anywhere for service. Based on this and many other reasons i departed Nikon and went to Canon. I'm not going to say either is better but I have yet to hear of one of these horror stories with Canon. Of course there is always a first time for everything. Good luck on getting your camera back and I hope all is well ;-)

I just thought I would give an update - in the event this helps someone else in the future.

Nikon took forever to log in my camera-- nearly 2 weeks. Now they have had it for another two weeks. I got a price quote sometime around Sept. 13th, which was reasonable (2 weeks or shortly thereafter) -- $350 to fix the lens and body. But they still haven't finished fixing them both! And they haven't sent the body which is fixed -- yet they are charging me $12.50 shipping for each component.

When I call to find out about the delays, I am told someone will contact me, but no one ever does. All they say is the lens is still in repair.

Nikon's customer service is really lacking! They haven't kept their word on anything they said they would. They said they would open the camera two days after receiving it. It was over a week later. They told me I would have it shipped to me in 10 business days. 10 business days came and went yesterday and the lens is still in repair.

Now I worry if they will change the repair price or honor their labor.

What is up with Nikon??

Either way, thanks to all of you for your support!!

I shipped it to Melville, NY.

One thing is for sure, I will certainly appreciate it when it comes back more than ever. I am sick of my F717. I can't handle it anymore. I am an DSLR addict now!

The body repair was $190.50
The lens repair was 116.50
Plus 25.00 shipping to return.

I think it is reasonable too. Just their turn around time is nuts!

I got my camera back from Nikon today! It's been over a month!!

But, I must say, it's my old camera looking spiffy and new.

I'm thrilled to have it back!

Nikon honored their original quoted price -- they just tacked on the $12.50 shipping per item even though they were shipped in the same box.

Just thought I would update for people in the future so they know what to expect.

Nikon didn't get it right after all, dang it. The AWB makes pictures look like a yellow-green filter is on the camera. It's NASTY.

Just sent it back thankfully at Nikon's expense.

Hopefully it won't be another month!

From Nikon's viewpoint it'd be cheaper just to give you a new body at this point.

I had so much crap with Nikon UK service I switched.. It REALLY did give me the raging HUMP how I was treated, accused of lying to them and trying to get something for nothing, they kept my camera over 1 month then when they finally called me the woman said "hi, Nikon UK service.. about you LENS"!!!! doh HELLO!!!

I had to buy, yes BUY A fuji S5 pro body to shoot some booked work (I had a D70s but the MP count was too low for the company).

I love Nikon cameras to death but the service has been nothing short of DISGUSTING!

I heard Canon is just as bad but I'll cross that bridge when, and IF I ever come to it.

I lived in Japan for 10 years and must say, The service in that country is absolutely AMAZING. After I personally broke my D2H trying to squeeze a 1950 lens on it they not only fixed it for FREE but they also called my mobile phone to apologise.

Sorry to hear about your D80, I feel your pain.

this happened to me with a KM5D it was written off and the insurance company replaced it with a Sony A100. once water gets into a camera most time its uneconomic to repair.
if you have an all risks extension on your home and contents you should be covered
