View from our backyard in DeLand, Fl of the Dawn spacecraft launch. You could faintly hear the liftoff and we are over 40 miles away from the launch site.

That's so fun to see. I've always thought it would be great to watch a launch.
I love the changing colors in the sky. It looks like it will be a beautiful day. |

Deland! Do you skydive?
Launches are always awesome no matter how many times you see them. I grew up in Cape Canaveral and have seen many launches, including the Challenger disaster (which was NOT awesome but very tragic and sad)

Years ago I took some lessons, my buddy ended up getting tangled in the cords on his second jump and it scared the hell out of us both.

I would love to watch a shuttle launch. I was stationed at Vandenburg AFB during the 70's and got to see and was part of the count down of a number of launches during that time. The most impressive was the big Titan 3C's with the 9 boosters strapped on it. Talk about the ground shaking and roar. :D I took pictures of some of these but the film is buried somewhere amoung all my other stuff that is buried from long ago. The picture I wish I could have gotten though was one morning when I was heading up to work on the hill that overlooks the base. We had our usual ground fog that didn't go as high as the hill we worked on, so I broke out into sunshine before I got to my turn off. As I was looking out over the fog, I saw two bright glows and then two Minute Men missles came up out of the fog, turning and twisting as they aligned on the Pacific impact area they were heading for. Vandenburg was a training, testing and evaluation base for Minute Men missles and they were exciting to watch when I was around during their launching.
I wish I did more photography while I was there, but they didn't allow a lot of photography in the area.
Nice shot considering how far away you were.
