Wassup with canon and lens hoods. Cant they ship it with the lens like everybody else. I'm not paying $40 for a cheap piece of plastic. I need one for a canon 100mm macro lens. Any workarounds?

| Just bought one myself for the same lens, used, from B&H for a bit less. You could try keeping an eye out for used merchandise from reputed dealers (B&H, Adorama, etc.). |

| You can always order after-market screw-in lens hoods. |

We've already (and recently) discussed this ad nauseam in this thread.
Give it a look. There is even a link there so you can make your own hoods! (not that I would recommend doing so)

I don't think they are being greedy....that have to pay employees to make them and pay for the upkeep of the machines that make them. If I needed a lens hood for a lens that cost over $600 I wouln't think twice about shelling out an extra $40 for a lens hood.

Well, buying a $600 lens, I would really expect it to come with hood and front and rear caps.
Even my Russian Rubinar came with a (metal) hood. |

I bought the 100 macro and the lens hood. I spent 500 on the lens why not an extra 40. I can't take the money when I leave this world anyway. Why not spend it :).
Just my thought

| Didn't the OP say that the reason he was upset was because Canon charges for what everyone else includes for free? Sounds like a legit gripe to me. |
