When you're sitting on the steps to your little trailer, gazing across the lovely landscaping that consists of a wooden pallet, endless miles of trucked in from who knows where rocks, and concrete barriers and T-walls, you get a little bored and start looking for things to shoot. Like rocks, piled carefully on the wooden pallet, in front of the concrete T-wall. This is unedited.

You take the unedited version, slap some levels on it and throw a serious curve to it, then sharpen and add a nice border...

You try a couple of actions for entertainment:

To get a different angle of your rocks on your wooden pallet with the concrete T-wall behind, you set your camera on the pallet and hit the shutter, only to discover you've got the center focus thingie on, and the center of your composition is conveniently the dust covered T-wall. The end result is kinda cool, but perhaps only if you happen to be stuck sitting on your porch looking at rocks, then stuck in your trailer with the laptop on the bed as a desk, looking for interesting shots to edit. Also note that the pallet is covered in that same fine dust that appears on the T-wall; that dust is now all over the bottom of your camera.

You spend all night trying to get stupid pictures of freakin' rocks to upload, patiently typing in stuff that few will read (but you hope a few will appreciate), then you hit "Post" before you finish....

Anyway, one more. The silhoutte I undoubtedly should have entered in the silhouette challenge. The same rocks, only from a low perspective requiring the photographer (yours truly) to get covered with the lovely fine dust on top of the wooden pallet on which rests the wooden box (seen in the Motivational Poster entry from the above noted photographer) on which rest the rocks. Levels, then curves set to cross process a bit.

And if you think that spending all night trying to get stupid pictures of freakin' rocks to upload, patiently typing in stuff that few will read (but you hope a few will appreciate), and shooting and editing pictures of three rocks to begin with are signs that I'm losing my marbles (notice that I am not loosing my marbles, by the way), well, let's just say that these are trying times and I'm trying.... :-)

Thanks so much, guys, I MADE IT!!! It was so scary going to pick up my photos and get the results I nearly got sick. The head juror looked like a bulldog and said nothing directly to the artists. I feel very, very fortunate, as there were a lot of very fine artists who have to try again next time. My winking owl photo (it's been my best seller) is in the "First Federal" upcoming show here in Charleston. Evidently they throw a great artist reception so I'm excited about that! My first!

Thanks again to everyone who helped provide photo selection guidance!

Congratulations!

Oh, I know right where the rocks are. They've been out there, sitting on that pallet for quite some time now. I occasionally have to put the little one back on top, as the wind or the vibrations from all sorts of big things will cause it to fall off. In fact, the rocks that spell out "Think" are still there as well. But I have no idea where marbles are, either mine or anyone else's.

Deb, keep those rocks/marbles rolling!
Catherine, many congrats!

Deb, I enjoy your stories and pictures they make where you are seem more real, as I feel that I know you a little better from the pictures you take and the tibits of your life you share.

Deb, Melethia I truely love your stories of you days and nightly activities, and it is a shame you cna't record them with your camera.

It is wonderful that you share them with us, as we then feel so much closer to you.

My days lately have been long, as my eyes are playing up so much. The specialist say I still have six months before he can remove the cataract from my left eye.

Many mistakes at the computer re spelling, due to me hitting the wrong buttons all the time. I been slack at commenting lately due to my eyes, but going to do some commenting today.

My challenge entries all suck lately, and not scoring that well, but I like them, so that is what really matters.

Have a good day everyone.

love shez

ps Found three spelling errors so far, in this thread, re hitting the wrong buttons on the keyboard. Four now.....

ps checking for spelling and errors.....

Deb and Shez: keep on truckin', keep on sharin', keep on shootin', and keep on typin'. :)

But Shez, I really liked one of your typing errors - made it sound like you'd have a good time waiting for that cataracts operation.... :-)

Shez, don't worry about spelling. We can figure out what you mean, and we know your are intellegent, so we're not judging spelling. I know the temptation to have everything perfect, but when it takes so much time, the spelling just isn't worth it.

Hi Deb and Shez
Methinks the two of you sound like you're having a helluva lot of fun despite (because of?) your certain circumstances! Deb, great study of rocks and love the accompanying commentary...and Shez, hang in there, my mum had cataract surgery too and has no trouble seeing now.

Best to both of you! *hugs*

Echo that! No one cares about your spelling, Shez, just that you are here :-) And Deb, I love reading your stories about Iraq, and just added the silhouette with rocks to faves. I think it's brilliant.

All you guys & girls are just the BEST here at Team Suck and thats why I love being a member.

Thank you all for your support, as it means such a lot to me. I feel like you, that maybe it doesn't really matter about my spelling, as most are just typing errors, but I do wish I could see.

I just have to wait out the time, and it will be fixed.

Some members have suggested firefox added to my desktop.
Do any of you have this, as I always get worried when adding something else to my computer.

I am having mouse problems at the moment, so I always take my time adding new things. I love to know more about firefox if anyone has some info.....

Here is the thread that many have suggested firefox.....

Hi Sherpet,
I use Mozilla Firefox and have not had any problems with it. I've been using it for a couple of years now due to my sight problems...It's *&^% getting old....lol.

that's wonderful. I'd love to teach kids poetry. or anybody, for that matter. I could do it, but I don't have the credentials.

btw, Jeffrey, I took your advice and put the light very close to me for the Deja Vu entry, in order to have a softer gradation of light to dark.

I just want to publicly thank you and document that you are partially responsible for that photo... ;)

I have not been around much lately, but have set a goal to try to enter one challenge a week. I am now entered in soft focus, and I'm sure it will get a nice low score!

Deb, I like your rock shots!

Hey, that's great, Christian! I envy your students.

Christian - you've been a busy woman indeed! Congrats on the new job! As Jeffrey said, I envy your students. They're very lucky indeed.

Elaine, good to hear from you - and glad you like the rocks. I was hoping you guys would find the whole sordid affair somewhat amusing.
