Is this any good, or is it just a scam like everything else?

not a scam, it actually is a pretty amazing music site. They always have a great special of 50 free songs or some such thing, so if you're going to join be sure to sign up with the special offer. They don't have a lot of really mainstream music, so browse their collection before you commit to a monthly fee. Otherwise, they have a lot of good music and are a legit company.

My girl and I have used it for over 2 years. I love it. It has all the music I love. Emusic doesn̢۪t have everything but they continue to get more and more labels. You can cancel if you don't like the selection.

Not a scam...

I might give it a try.

eMusic.com has a surprisingly deep library given their indy focus. Especially if you like a broad genre like blues or jazz, there's a lot there. Prices can't be beat. One of the best places to get your music legally!

Ya, I try and keep things on the level and itunes ect... are just too stinking expensive and the digital rights just tick me off. Nothing like being disconnected from the internet and not being able to access your music. Such a hassle. + I like to give the indy bands a chance.

Do they have a referral program? I will use your name if I can give somebody credit when I sign up.

I don't think they have a referral program, but when you sign up you get 25 tracks free - pretty sweet deal. Good luck with eMusic!

Got 100 free!

yourmusic.com is pretty sweet too. Kind of BMG type pricing (7 an album)

That looks really good for all the mainstream stuff. Is there a subscription fee, or just the $6.99?

I found this new band I like on emusic which is really cool. Listened to them all day today.

Oh, I just realized they ship them to you. That makes sense. Cool idea. I think I am too impatient for that...lol

I dont think its a scam. I got an offer of 100 free music with the HD DVD player I bought my husband. I had to cough up my credit card number and opted not to do it. However, the amount of dloads you get for a few bucks seems really worth it.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

I downloaded a hun last night. That is how I roll. I found a couple bands I really like. Now I am going to need one of those 160gig ipods.

I've been using last.fm lately, Rhapsody kept jacking up the subscription rates. :(

I almost singed up for one of those rental plans, but that really isn't that great of a deal because you are really restricted on how you can listen to it.

I guess im an ass, but I have a hard time paying for music now a days. I guess just due to how its so readily available for free. I know I know, copyrights, my images, someone did that to you, yadda yadda yadda. But while I don't pay for the music, I do go to an insane amount of shows in a year, and buy merch, which is how the bands make their money.

*edit*-Most of the stuff I download is not widely distributed due to the type of the music it is, thus making it so I would never hear it if it was not downloaded-*edit*

I did download the new Bruce Springsteen album, but I also plan on purchasing that one, which will be the first cd I bought in about 2 years.

Jason - what was the new band you found?
09/25/2007 08:50:58 AM · #18
These are a few I liked so far that I would have probably never bought on itunes. So they are new to me...
Bitune
Minus the Bear
Spoon
Brandston
Appleseed Cast
Crash Boom Bang
Plain White T's

This is interesting - I've never heard of them, but the comment about jazz/blues genres caught my eye since I'm trying to assemble a blues-heavy soundtrack for my exhibition next week. It's been awhile since I've burnt music to CD - anyone know if there would be any trouble converting emusic's MP3s to .wav and making a CD? In the past I've used MusicMatch to convert and make CDs.

It is simple, Media Player, and Itunes do this with ease.

For the first time ever, I downloaded an MP3 cd that I wasnt able to burn to an audio cd the other day. I have no clue what the deal was with it.

Funny timing. We just bought our daughter her first MP3 player and it came with an offer from emusic.com. They had none of her first 3 searches, so we didn't bother with it. So I think the key is to know it's indy. But it did look like quite a deep collection, as others have said.
