Is this a good bag? I like the idea of a backpack and the sling factor seems handy. It looks like it would hold my current gear but not much more. I'd currently want to carry around...

Canon 350D
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4.0L IS
Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro for Canon
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Canon 430EX Flash

...plus filters, batteries, etc.

I don't see myself getting another lens for a while so that would be it. Good bag?

I have one, and I use it a lot.

Typically, I'll have the following items in it:

D70s
18-35mm 2.8
70-200mm 2.8
50mm 1.8
10-20mm

Plus several filters, my Visible Dust kit, batteries, etc. Given your list, you'd probably fit everything but perhaps the flash. That might make it a tight squeeze.

I originally bought it for DPC get-togethers and hiking in general. I like the way it acts as a sling over my right shoulder, although if your shoulder is at all out of shape, you'll probably get tired of having it there for too long. It also has a strap you can wrap around your waste, and that helps alleviate some of the pressure on the shoulder.

EDIT: Re-reading your list, and giving it more thought, I do believe you would be fine getting your flash to fit. I'd think everything would fit as you're describing it, particularly since the 50mm takes very little space.

I got one a couple of weeks ago. Yes it will hold all that you mentioned. It reminds me of a bowling ball bag. This is slightly larger then my other Tamrac bag.

It has a good zippered cover and two plastic clips on the left and right ends. I rather liked the plastic clip/latch in the middle like my other bag. My other one also had a clear plastic zippered pouch on the inside of the outer zippered front.

I found that if you carry it on your back, up near the top of your back, the way that camping backpacks are caried, then you have to shorten the shoulder strap. And the lengthen it again when you need it on your side at about waist level.

An Eagle scout once showed me that for longer packpacking and climbing your shoulders should carry the weight much more easily then your back.

So it works in both positions, but you can't instantly sling it back and forth between the two positions. I also have a Tamrac backpack for longer, more strenuous hikes.

I can stuff two bodies, 5 lenses, and a flash in mine if I use the top pouch too :) It will certainly fit everything you have there.

I prefer the Slingshot 300 for taking absolutely everything along though.

As I said I went from a Tamrac "Pro 5" to a Tamrac "5769 Velocity 9x" sling bag. I'm not sure what "top pouch" wavelength is referring to. There is a narrow zippered compartment on the front outside, the top lid does not have any pouches.

These tout the MAS system, they have a lot of strapping on the outside to attach lens holders or accessory pouchs
