Well, I've done it again. Blown way more money than I should have. But damn am I excited! About a week ago I ordered the battery grip and an SB-600 for my D80, both of which have proven incredible. But I've been instantly mesmerized by the SB-600! I almost sold my battery grip to get a second SB-600, but I have such absurdly big hands I can't bear to part with it! It really does make the camera feel like a different beast. Fortunately, I was able to sell of some other things to afford a second flash!! So I ordered another SB-600. Then I was digging around online, reading comparisons between the 600 and the 800. It's a damn tough choice, the 800 is almost twice the price, but it does come with some nifty extra features. So I ordered it! But, alas, I couldn't cancel my order for the 600! So currently, I have an SB-600 AND an SB-800 on the way! They'll both be here wednesday, so I have to decide by then which one to send back. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! I've been away from DPC for a very long time, and I'm determined to really start getting into the challenges. So I'm going to once again bring up the debate that has raged on many forums:

SB-600 vs. SB-800
is the 800 worth the extra money? Do you really use the extra power and the extra features? Will the optical slave and pc-connection pay off in the end? Or should I ditch everything, send them both back, sell my other SB-600, and buy some Pocket Wizards and SB-24s?

I have the 600 but wish I had bought the 800. I don't use it a great deal, but when I do I always have a Lightspere on it. I might sell it and upgrade...

I have a rule now, always get what you really want because you will always live with the 'maybe-I-shoulda...' problem.

My friend has a SB800 with a D80 and he loves it...

The 800 is nice because it goes down to 1/128 power (instead of just 1/64), has an easier button layout, the LCD is easier to understand, and has SU-4 mode.

Are you a Strobist? If so, go for the 800. If not, the 600 will probably do.
