It's either my imagination, something has changed in my browser, or there's been a change to the site...
But there seem to be more underlined links than before, e.g. the camera model under our names in the forums, and also the 'last poster' names on the forum summary. |

Nope, not even close. 1997 would be using 5 different fonts for text that does the same thing, in 4 different colors.
Links should obviously be links, and non-linked text should be equally obvious. Web usability 101.
As an example, the text to the left of each forum post has two different pieces: name and camera. They're both links to more info about the respective subjects. Why are they formatted differently?
On a picture page, why are some of the links in the info box blue and others aren't? Why isn't the user's name underlined and in blue, when it's a link to the profile?
Every time you change basic functions like link display, you put an obstacle in your users' way.
