I plan to have a 350D converted for IR and was curious if anyone has used Life Pixel or Maxmax. If you have used either, are you satisfied with the service and the outcome? Thanks.

I converted a 300d. I think life pixel is a bit pricey. I used a local shop that said they could do teh labor. they tried to charge me something outrageous for the clear filter so I ended up buying just the filter from Lifepixel and bringing them the part.

I have had great results so far.

I ordered the replacement part for the 350D from life pixel, and had it shipped to the UK.
And it arrived about 4 days later.
could not have been a better service from them.

I then got a shop in london to do the swap out.

I also see you have the 50mm 1.8 canon lens. of my lenses, this one works the best. The others i have suffer from glare.

I had a Fuji F31fd P&S camera converted by MaxMax. They were very quick and did a great job. The camera and conversion cost me about the same as just the conversion cost can be for a DSLR camera (I bought the camera for around $200 and sent it to them- it is now scarce and prices are higher for the camera). It is easier to carry around with my DSLR but does not give me the option of changing lenses. For wider angle shots I use a panorama photo stitch program. If you would like to see some of my IR photos, I have a gallery here: //www.pbase.com/jeffryz/infrared_gallery

Thanks for the input. I am sending the camera to Life Pixel tomorrow to be converted by them. I am having them calibrate to the 50 1.8 but hope I will be able to use my 17-40 f/4 as it is much wider and handles well with IR from all things I have read and heard. I hope to have some pics in a couple of weeks to post. Thanks!

I love IR and it lets you see the world in a whole new way. Share some pictures with it after you get going with it! You probably know the bit about using green to set your white balance on it since it sounds like you have been doing your research into the topic.

Thanks Jeff I will as soon as I get some. I took a look at you stuff and it's awsome. I have read all about the custom WB and channel swapping for the false color IR as well. I plan to do a mixture of both b&w IR and False Color IR. I have done a lot of research and even tried on my non-converted cameras but I wasn't happy with exposure times and the constant taking off of the filter to recompose the shot and set focus. I'm hitting the UPS store in the morning to ship out my camera so it will be a week or two before I get it back, I hate waiting!

I got my Canon 350D back from Life Pixel about a week and a half ago. They actually only had it one week and sent it back converted. So far I very happy with the conversion and Life Pixel's service. I havent had a whole lot of time to shoot or toy with it but here are a few that are in my portfolio now. Thanks for the input and advice!
