This is the official "why do people say people need to be more angry when they rant" rant.
It's apparently very short.
That was all. |

I'm kinda with you on this, Kelly. I am in a situation where negativity abounds. All people seem to do is find fault with things other people do or don't do. No one seems to be able to find any good in things. And when I find good in things, people seem to want to shoot it down... I suppose it's human nature to some extent, but I'll keep trying! |

I to wish people would resort to anger a little less when they rant - it is sometimes amusing, but rarely makes the person angrily ranting very persuasive.

I quite agree; if one is truly "ranting", one is engaged in an old English dance of the seventeenth century in duple meter and binary form :-)

Funny posts. Sounds like a desire to change the Rant Forum to the Well Formed Argument Delivered Politely Forum. |

Actually, it's a well-founded and not unreasonable request: a rant is not, by definition, defined by its anger:
ΓΆ€ΒΆ harangue: a loud bombastic declamation expressed with strong emotion
ΓΆ€ΒΆ bombast: pompous or pretentious talk or writing
ΓΆ€ΒΆ talk in a noisy, excited, or declamatory manner

True enough. Like everyone, I've had many experiences where someone has made a "loud bombastic declamation expressed with strong emotion" motivated by feelings of love and peace. |

Try frustration, impatience, dissatisfaction, annoyance, disbelief, despair, hopelessness, good stuff like that...

Actually I think frustration, impatience and dissatisfaction really are the motivators behind almost all rants here. However it is very difficult to read a one-off bit of typing and discern the subtle difference between frustration and anger, especially when the only 'voice' you are hearing is the one inside your head. |

Yeah....
That'd be such a nice change.
With me it's the negativity and denigration thing that gets to me so much.
I fail to understand why if something is different than a conventional idea, it has to be berated as being wrong.
Can't it just be different?
I reached critical mass myself last night on another thread and realized that the whole problem for me is that I get so passionate about genuinely trying to help that I get mortally offended when someone makes some snide, kneejerk remark.
I have to remember not to take this stuff seriously because in the long run, there are just so many people that seem to get off on being abrasive, and uncooperative in threads that it's just not worth the energy.
Basically, I've been broken of trying to care about making any kind of difference in the big picture......so I won't be a part of the problem by engaging in any futile attempts to help and/or make a difference.
So I'll just work on my photography, vote as the photographs move me, and just move on if it becomes too nasty and argumentative in a thread.
I'm just here to participate anyway.....I don't know what made me think I have any say on what goes on anyway.
Or that I could make a difference.
Take care, all.

Which bit of that is objectionable? How does it help if you state your frustration badly, or incompletely, or in a manner designed to offend other people?

This is a slightly timid approach to things: they can be different and still either wrong or misconceived.
If you do this:

Then this becomes unnecessary:

It doesn't really matter how things are stated as far as I can tell. People tack both emotion and intent to written words which simply aren't there. Your assumption that I find it objectionable for instance. |

Not really - more in the nature of "why not?" I should remember to add emoticons more often. Or write better.
