I'm on the verge go commiting myself to order this lens.
But in online pics, i'm seeing different shades of white.
I know it's more of a cream color, but sometimes it looks nice and bright and others a more dull cream.
What is it in real life?
Also, the little bump for the AF switch looks different in these two pics:
1
2
Are they different versions?
Thanks for the help.

Buy it........it is a good lens.
The difference in color I have no clue. Mine is a cream color.........the AF swithc I am not sure. Is there a difference between the IS version and the non-IS?

It's more of a cream than a pure white. Image 1 is different than mine, it looks like it must be the IS version to me. version 2 looks like mine (non-IS).
Great lens either way.

The two you have posted there are different. One, the one that says "Image Stabilzer" on it, is the IS version. The other, the one that says "70-200mm" in the same spot as the other says "IS" is the non-IS version. As far as colors go, I'm going to attribute that to the difference in lighting and processing. Mine sure is cream more than bright white. You can't lose either way. But, and you may think differently, I would go for the f/2.8L non-IS instead of the f/4L IS. The cost difference is not that great and, to me, the f/2.8 would go a lot further than the IS.

| L lenses aren't pure white. All the reviews i've read for the lens say it's great, don't let the color bother you. |

They all have creamy looking color...I know the older f/2.8 IS has swtiches like the f/4 non IS and the newer f/2.8 IS has switches like the f/4 IS
don't let the color bother you, all these lenses are great.. |

I got this lens recently and I love it. No regrets whatsoever! BTW in the 2nd shot is more accurate.
Why doe the color of the lens matter?

I would love to paint mine black, I mean the white elephant does stand out a bit... but haven't yet and probably won't.... after a while you don't even notice. Its an awesome lens, no matter its color (which IS a creamy off-white).
