I have a Nikon D80 and my sister has given me a lens for which she had no manual. It is a TAMRON, TIFFEN 52mm SKY 1-A. Evidently it's a manual focus, I think. It has a macro option, but when I turn the lens to use the macro it stops just short. Anybody know why?

Most of the combo lens that do macro have a limited range. This is normal. Get up real close to a subject when it's in this mode and try manually focusing. Also leave the focus in the middle of the range and try moving closer and farther away from the subject slowly. Sometimes when you're not using a tripod this is the best method of focusing macro. The Tiffen thing is the filter screwed onto the lens. There will be other identifying numbers with f-stops to help us identify the lens.
With those numbers you might be able to find a PDF manual at the Tamron site, or see if somebody on eBay has one.
