Ya, ya, OK, I'm an idiot.

I'm leaving for the fall fair soon and want to have a couple of custom functions set, as outlined in chapter 11 of the manual. I understand how to set the functions, but I can't figure out how to attach them to the C1, C2, & C3 on the dial on top-left of the camera.

Help? :-(

You don't mean "Custom Functions" do you? Don't you mean "Camera User Settings"?

If so, then set up your camera with all the settings you want to save, then go to the second-to-last menu tab, select "Camera user setting" and press the "Set" (middle of quick dial). Now select "Register" and press "Set". Choose which user setting you want "C1", "C2", or "C3". Press "Set".

To use these settings, simply spin the Mode Dial to one of the "C" positions.

However, if you really meant "Custom Functions", then simply go to the next-to-last menu tab, select whichever function group you want (C". Fn I", "C. Fn II", or "C. Fn III" group and start tweaking.

HTH!

I put the dial to Av mode and set the ISO expansion to allow 3200, and it has stuck OK. So when I turn the camera off, and on again, it's still set.

But when I put the dial to C1 and set Highlight Priority, it only stay anebled for the session. Once I turn the camera off and on again, the setting is unset for C1.

????

It's got to be something simple. I figure 20D and 30D users have the save custom dial settings?

Les, YOU RULE!

Thanks man! That's totally NOT in chapter 11 of the manual, though I do now recall skimming past that bit somewhere else in the manual last night, doh!

You da man!

My wife & I love the tractor pull, we're so odd. We could watch it all day, but the kids get so antsy, we can't stay still for long. There's a demolition derby too, but we don't expect to last until that happens.

Here are a couple of tractor pull shots from last year, with my "old" camera. ;-)

Hopefully I'll get some unusual stuff today, and some good practice with the new camera. :-)

Great images, Slippy! So, how'd you like the 40D? What did you like/dislike about it today?

There's nothing I dislike about it. I will have to get used to it, though, with those handy buttons and screen up top, which I like already. It's a bit bigger and heavier than my Rebel, which I like a lot. I got the battery grip for it, as I also had one for the Rebel. The extra size makes it easier for me to handle.

Oh ya, and holy crap, burst mode!!!

I didn't get to use it as much as I'd hoped, but we all had lots of fun. My nine year old girl is a prodigy at carnival games, it's uncanny.
