I totally messed up last still life challenge by DNMC, so this time I want to make sure. What constitutes still life? Can it be anything that is not alive?
THanks
Jaime

So I could take a picture of a door and that is technically still life, right?

With still life there's more of a demand on arrangement by the artist/photographer to produce the image. He or she should be the chief architect in creating the image. Basically, think of it like a studio shot where you control the lighting, the pose of the model, the composition, etc. That's what is expected with a still life but with inanimate objects. You could include living things and for this challenge it might come in handy to fullfill the motion aspect but there should still be a prominent focus on the inanimate objects and anything else you include should be supporting it and or the concept of it.
As for found items, those can be used as still life but as MAK mentioned they may not score well. The reason for it is the viewer is expecting the artist's imprint on the image so if you go this route you better show it off with spectacular lighting or something to give it a profound presence.
Edited for spelling.

I hear you guys. I just wanna do something different. I feel there will be too many fruit and wine glass entries. I want to do do something different. I got something in mind, but I fear as mentioned by MAK since its not some fruit arranged in a basked, it will not do well. Hmm...this is going to be a tough call. This photo I took over the weekend is excellent, but its not a basket of fruit nor some basket of flowers. We see...however its still lifeless and it is arranged, but its different because the arragement was me setting the mood and photo. Not physically arranging objects. :(

Don't you ever feel dirty? I mean they do a good job of marketing on their own w/o you having to be their local site representative... |
