I had never paid much attention to the file numbering on my D80, but I just rolled over 10,000 shots and it went back to 1. Damn. I really don't want to have to start manually renaming all my shots.

Is there any way to set the D80 file numbering to go past 9999?

I had that happen with the Fuji S3 Pro that I use, and now have 2 S3's and my wife has an A360 Fuji, so I am having a lot of overlapping numbers. I do not think that there is a way to make the numbers go past 10K. You can rename files as they go into your computer by date/ roll/ time if it would help.

I was afraid of that. Thanks for the confirmation.

I don't know about the D80, but on my D200 I can change the three letter prefix. In particular I changed it when I got the camera to differentiate between the D70 I had before and the D200. When the D200 wraps, I just change it again.

I do the same with my 1DMKIIn, I'm about to roll over 10k and I'll just rename the first 3 letters and there wont be an issue. EOS utilities downloads them into folders by date anyway so its not an issue.
