Just got a nice comment and nice score boost on my Silhouette entry from a nameless-for-now TSer. The entry had been bombing. Happy, happy, happy... |

Me too, me too. SandyP and Melethia wrote the only two comments, and they both understood exactly why I selected this shot, and why I really like it. |

It's actually doing slightly better than I expected......slightly above my average vote received, so that's fine.
I guess I'm just going to have to get some acceptance with the fact that I'm a mid- to high-5 scorer with an occasional flash of good luck who lays the occasional egg as well.
I do have fun and take decent shots, so.......I guess I can live with that!

Let's have a nice quiet time with no more broken bones (either Team Suck members or their canine companions) and no more heart attacks, 'k? (And I'll try to stay out of the way of things that go boom, too. Actually got to see the smoke and dust from one this morning - it was a bit closer than usual.) |

Well, I was going to make tamales this weekend, so I'm not promising anything! |

DEB, I will try my darndest to abide by your request. Now that the last therapy session is done, I'm impatiently waiting for the husband to return from work so we can leave on vacation.
Looking forward to meeting two of the three Vermont Lovelies that have been so great. Unfortunately one of our newest Suckees will be away, so sad.
You stay safe too, OK? Shall we make a pact?
Jeanne

Thank you all for the congrats. They are very much appreciated, as was all the support you all selflessly gave (especially Jeffrey).

Jeanne, it's a deal!
And for those of you who worry about scores at DPC and all, some days there are those nifty highlights outside of DPC that make it all worthwhile. I had two pictures printed at 8x12 here (yes, there's a vendor with a very nice printing machine here!) for the guys I work with. One was a different exposure, B&W version of my "Without a Net" entry, and the other was my 11th place Free Study. First question I got when I went to pick them up was "Did you take these??" :-) I may make the Free Study available for print here. It prints up very well. I may even have one done for me! |

Oh, good grief!!!!!
I hope that you don't base your perception of your skills on this place!
Yes, it's a great place to learn and all, but as I continue on here, I start to see more and more how myopic you can get if this is your only frame of reference.
Cheerleading is a typical example for me. I was not happy with the majority of what I was doing until I started to see the things that others were bringing in enlarged, mounted, framed.......some of it was awful technically, but it is the shots of the kids that's important, so the technicals take a back seat. They now have some of my work blown up and mounted as a record of some of the events, and though they aren't the greatest, they are so much better than having nothing at all, and the parents and kids all love them.
Deb, your work is talented and emotive........certainly anyone you know there would be delighted to have prints of the glimpses of wonder and beauty that you find in the darkest and strangest of circumstances.....I know I'd take a copy of that Free Study in a heartbeat, and the shot "Outside the Wire" is sobering and evocative of the danger you live with. At risk of the cliche, that shot *IS* worth a thousand words.
You have the talent, opportunity, skill, and "eye" to take the shots that will stay with people a lifetime......yeah, maybe you'll never be able to quit your day job, but you'll leave a legacy behind with the images that you've captured.
I am most delighted to be where I get to see them on a regular basis.!.....8>)
That goes for quite a few people here as well.....including the ones not in a war zone......or Iceland!

Nah, this place is only one (albeit a big one) source of feedback. My mom is another and she's my biggest fan, so that's nice. I send pictures to lots of folks. The guys who work at the palace with a friend of mine bug him regularly to see if I've sent him anything - he shares my pictures with them (with my permission) and they send them to all their friends and family. I like that. :-) Mostly I just enjoy the process - a lot.
Kind words, Jeb - thanks! |

Hi guys,
I've been MIA for awhile, but still read the thread at least every couple of days. I'm very glad Kelli is on the mend (hope you got my PM?) and am thrilled to hear that you are finished with your physical therapy, JerseyGenie! Huge congrats on that!
I am very nervous right now. I am applying to jury into the Charleston art guild on Saturday. If I make it, I will have a permanent venue for several pieces as well as access to many, many shows. If I don't, I'll cry and try again next time :-) Thankfully my skin has gotten pretty thick. When I went to get a couple of my pieces framed, I got several offers from other customers to purchase them, so that may be a good sign, I hope. I am also taking a portraiture class right now on BetterPhoto.com, which so far has been extremely helpful. One of my first photos was an editor's pick, so I'm thrilled about that (too bad the lighting was accidental, but maybe I can actually do it deliberately next time, LOL).
Ephln good luck on that new job, and may the camera gods bless you with some beautiful new glass :-) |

Yay! Sounds like a very good plan to me, though I think you should advance the various holidays a touch. After all, there's still Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving, and possibly some made-by-the-greeting-card-biz holidays thrown in there as well. And I think it's perfectly acceptable to have Wednesday be new lens day. They even share a whole bunch of letters and stuff.... |
