They just don't make 'em like they used to and that goes for everything.
Afterall there's no money in making a product that lasts! Keep the consumer buying and business is good. |
Buy Denon. Yes you'll pay more. Yes it's superb. Yes it'll last. No I don't work for Denon.
I had my previous Denon components for 15 years (through high school, college, and early married years, it got moved at least 20 times) and sold it all on eBay back in '99 for good money. My current Denon stuff is still perfect after 8+ years. I want to upgrade to get some of the latest features but it's impossible knowing this stuff is no more than halfway through its usable life. I do recommend skipping the stuff they sell through Circuit City and/or Best Buy and go to a real stereo shop.
ETA: One thing that's generally true in the world of electronics is that you get what you pay for. But there are always exceptions, like Bose.

yeah, but I would EXPECT a Coby to crap out sooner. you can buy them in the SUPERMARKET! And they are cheap. Sony's not cheap. You can probably buy 5 Coby's for the same price as a Sony and you may get a longer cumulative life out of them.

Yah Denon's are quite a bit more! Lets see, I could barely afford the entry level dvd player. Maybe someday... but for now I'd rather spend money on more productive hobbies.
For our home audio we went to a used stereo store and bought a Yamaha Natural Sound receiver/amp from the 70's and some old Pioneer speakers... like I said before, they just don't make em like they used to.
I don't own a television.
For now I'll just stick with the laptop for all the digital media.

very true.
The people who have old sony they love it (like I love my 90s music system), but the new stuff (many brands) is just crappy. |
