I have just ordered the Pantone Huey monitor calibration system, going by the review here Review of the Pantone Huey monitor calibration system it looks like a great entry level monitor calibration tool.

Has anyone use it? If so how have you found it?

BTW I picked it up for $AU119.00 plus delivery.

I just got one a few weeks ago, and I've been happy with it. It initially took me a while to get used to how things looked on a calibrated screen -- apparently the default settings are pretty screwy!

I had trouble getting prints that didn't look the same as they did on the monitor, and this seems to be helping significantly.

from my post in another thread....

I picked up a huey last week because I was doing some printing and thought my monitor calibration was causing a problem. The huey worked great and now my monitor, prints and calibration prints from Millers all match. I bought the 'pro' upgrade online so I could calibrate a second monitor and then use both for editing. This is where things got really good because I had tried to match these two monitors many times using visual calibration utilities and they never matched. After using the huey both monitors match.

One quick note: When I first calibrated my laptop monitor it looked a little pink. I searched the web and posted questions to pantone asking what I was wrong. Just before returning the device, I bumped my screen and it tilted back towards me few degrees... and the color were perfect. I tried tilting it more towards me and things went a little blue. So, if you are working on a laptop make sure the screen is perpendicular to you line of site. This seems so obvious now, but it is important.

Great point!

I had a similar thing happen not with a calibrated monitor but with a my LCD monitor.

I had a photo on the screen and was ready to comment on the darkness of some area's in the photo when I decided to make a coffee, as I stood up and the angle altered that I was looking at the monitor some detail became obvious in those dark area's.

If I move to about 45 deg the contrast seems to alter slightly and details become visable, so I calibtated visually after that but I have never been confident in the results.

I love my Huey and wouldn't trade it. It does a great job, and I'm rather fond of the way it adjusts automatically for changing light periods (at selectable intervals). My screen shows true colors, and my prints come out much, much better since I've had it.

Just as an extra, anyone running it on Vista? I had to buy a new computer not that long ago and it has Vista.

I was looking at the web site last night and I believe there was a note saying they now have Vista support, although you may have to download an update from the web site.

I run Vista. When you put the disk in, you get that great Vista notification telling you that the software will not work. It has an option to link to the Pantone site, and when you do, there's an update to download and install. After that, you're golden.

My Huey arrived w00t! I just didn't know it as it was sitting in the letterbox for me! :)

What can I tell you, its a simple set up and easy download to update for Vista, extreamly quick and easy calibration and I love the way it adapts the monitor to the light in the room. (I have 2 windows in the room that get direct sunlight at different times of the day.)

What a difference it has made, even though I have tried to calibrate visually many times I was never satified with what I got and to be honest I had no idea what was correct.

Bottom line is i would recommend this as an entry level (Low Cost)monitor calibrator any day!

(PS: I can see why some of my low scoreing entries scored so low with blown out area's or to dark, they would have only looked as I intended on another monitor that had the same poor settings as my monitor did.
