| How often do they hold these challenges? |

Speed challenges are members only, and they take place randomly.

the come in 24, 48 and I think we even had one 72 hour challenge for the speed challenges

I only took part in one speed challenge, the "green" challenge. It was quite stressy actually because I didn't find out about it until late in the afternoon. I didn't get to do the "back to school" challenge tho, I couldn't think of anything at all. Complete blank there.
Like Steve said, I also think they should come more regularly, it kind of blows the cobwebs out of my brain cells a little. It makes me have to think faster :-)
