Yeah...I got a couple of them. When you are sitting this high...a two REALLY hurts!

BTW Snotty...what's your views tally?

Ya, I started out at the top of a tenth range this AM, a handful of 5s dropped it over the morning down to the bottom of the tenth. I crept back up the rest of the day to the top again and one 2 drops me back to the bottom.

How many views you going on? 400?

Nah...it has slowed down. You must have stopped hitting the refresh button...cheeky s**t!! LOL!

Sitting on 242 views.

Soooooooo ...

Is this primarily a photo contest, and the challenge theme just suggested what to shoot per usual, in which case it's like a free study for voting?

Or is this primarily a copying contest, so copying well should be voted higher than copying not as exactly?

In particular, when the original ribbon-winning shot didn't do much for me, do I score a very good copy of it highly or basically the same as I scored the original?

Edited to add: I know, I know, it's up to me. But I'm wondering how others are approaching this question.

Ooh, been getting hammered in the last 3 hours. Dropped a tenth each hour. Got another 1 in there somewhere.

Jeffrey, I'm doing a mix. I'm going through and voting the shot as if it were a free study first, then I'm going back and adjusting the highest 1/3rd or so of pictures based on their duplicating abilities. No idea if that's reasonable or not, just the way I decided to do it.

From what you and Judi have posted, it looks that someone is trying to manipulate the scores of the images that he/she thinks have a chance to win. Shouldn't the SC identify who is doing it to fix it?

Nah, it happens. The drop is as much a product of the six votes of 5 as it is the one 1 and one 2. Hopefully the 1 and 2 get scrubbed, but how can I complain about someone giving me a 5? (even though it still hurts the score)

It's not just the high scorers that are being beaten down. I'm under 6.1 now and was over 6.2 this morning.

As for voting, I am voting primarily on the duplication and then as if it were a Free Study. I guess that cancel's out Jason's method ;)

What we're seeing in scores is the typical voting pattern: very high at the start, typically dropping a bit overnight, dropping more the first evening.

I decided I'm voting primarily like it's a free study and as if I'd never seen these images before. Then I might bump up or down if someone did a particularly good or bad job of copying. But I'm not looking for pixel-by-pixel copies.

Mine has dropped .2 in the last few hours...that really hurts.

But at least I have my views...what's your Snotty?

Screw superstition. It can't get much worse. Maybe it will go up. :) I was sitting 7.38 at about 6:00PM, I guess that is only a .2 drop instead of the .3 I was thinking earlier.

I'm out of contention in this challenge, I believe. You higher than me?

Firstly, you can vote however you like.

Having said that I wonder what the point of challenge descriptions becomes? The description for this one is "Choose a previous ribbon-winning entry...and try to emulate it as closely as possible." Emulate means "To strive to equal or excel, especially through imitation". Given this I'd have thought that being as close to the original or better was more important than a "wow" image that wasn't really very close to the original.

I agree, the whole point of the challenge is to emulate another shot. When I get around to voting I am going to vote first on how close it is, even if I am not into the original. I am surprised anyone would decide to vote it as a Free Study, it seems this would be the one challenge where once you decided on an image it would be the most restrictive on what you can do. But in the end as long as you vote consistent, it really doesn't matter to each his own. :)

I took a little beating like the rest of you, but still very happy with the score, maybe it can climb back up to 7 over the next few days :)

I know that with my own entry, I studied the original for hours....with lots of returning to look at it again, even during the shoot. Every detail was crucial....especially the areas that I COULD control. There were obviously (as in many images) areas that were beyond my control and I couldn't replicate...but I tried to match every other detail 100%.

OK this may sound a bit weird, but having looked through the entries and examined mine again (and compared it with previous of my entries) I have to say I cant really understand why this is scoring so well (comparatively)

My only guess is that there has been a bit of a DPC love in and the scores are all a little higher than would be expected for this challenge (from what I have seen this others posting I reckon this score could still easily be in the bottom 10)

The original photographer found my image and commented. I think he/she had issues with it and gave me a 1.

I haven't found a single image worth less than 4 yet, not even the ones that tried on my images :-P

Oh, BTW:

That is sad. The original photographer of my image hasn't seen mine yet...or should I say...hasn't commented yet. Or maybe I have insulted the original image...I hope not!!
