i have the opportunity to buy a used 28-70 f/2.8 L ...
how much should i pay for it... and is it a good idea to buy it used. ?

Are you able to see it to know it is good condition? Compare it with the same online to see if the price asked is reasonable. Not to sure about lense prices as I am in Australia and dont know which dollars you are speaking of and if the cost of lenses over there are cheaper/more expensive than here. Sorry.

well i am going to see it for myself today and the guy is decen and is going to let me try it out thoroughly...

it is a discontinued lens.. but its successor (24-70) is 1100 $ brand new
