Not accusing anyone of anything...

But it would be nice to see how a DQ broke down. Especially on marginal DQs. It helps in setting precedence.

And add a DQ gallery to that request.

Actually...I really like the idea of a DQ gallery. It will help others to learn what is the wrong thing to do by looking through the images instead of trying to find them hidden at the end of challenges. A great learning area...definitely.

I know that myself...find it very difficult to find a particular image that I remember being DQ'ed for a particular reason...but really do need to find for clarification on an editing step on a current image.

This is a great idea in itself.

I do like the idea of a DQ gallery. As a learning tool, it would be a very good thing indeed.
Not sure about the DQ voting... on the one hand, I can see it being informative. OTOH, I can see close votes causing unnecessary second-guessing.

Rather than have a DQ gallery, why don't we try and push more "How'd they do that?" entries under the learning section of the website? It seems to me that's where we should try and direct people to go and learn the correct and incorrect ways of editing photos for THIS website.

JMHO.

It is possible there might be some second-guessing. Actually that is very likely. Not necessarily a bad thing though. Definitely not a bad thing when weighed against the advantages.

Now, by vote transparency, I'm not advocating showing each individual's vote. No need to vilify anyone. Just a general breakdown of the yays/nays would serve well.

Jason, Jason-- sometimes you have to make them work for it. It's like this: they see this, it goes right over their head. They think "WTF?" - then they come across the other thread and see it and they think "OH!! AHAHAAAAHAHAAAAAAAAAAHAHAAAAAAA" <-- It doubles the effect of the belly laugh.

Class dismissed. :P

the rules get tweaked, the SC members change, etc

a DQ gallery wouldn't be very helpful, and knowing who voted what would just create anger towards whomever you disagree with.

my opinion

Leroy did post this earlier (just a few posts back)...

I think a DQ gallery would be beneficial as a learning tool.

Showing SC votes by individual would not be a positive step for DPChallenge IMO. It would be interesting to see a combined result on how the vote went (# for/against DQ'ing the image).

just to play devil's advocate:

you don't think there would be endless thread's reading, " Picture X was DQ'd 5-4, but my picture Y was DQ'd 7-2 and they look identical".

or, probably a more frequent one, "How come only 5 SC members voted on my DQ and 10 SC members voted on that other DQ?"

or lastly, "DQ's should only get DQ'd if there's a 75% vote in favor of the DQ, otherwise it's just too close and the submitter should be given the benefit of the doubt"

... again, just playing devil's advocate. A DQ gallery wouldn't bother me a bit, I'm just not sure anyone would learn anything.

Well, it sure would make it easier to find the examples needed for this kind of thread now wouldn't it? :P

Well, since you have compared the operation of the Site Council to that of the Supreme Court, I don't see why you wouldn't support the voting being totally transparent, including who voted which way and some of their reasoning behind ruining or not ruining some member's week.

Some DQ's are made for obvious reasons. As for unnecessary second guessing, on the less obvious DQ's, it happens now, but by and large, the process is like some black box that spits out an arbitrary thumbs up or a thumbs down.

I suspect that if the SC are stripped and hung out for public flagellation every time they vote on a DQ it won't be long until there are no volunteers left willing to take on the HUGE job. Hell, you couldn't pay me to take the crap they do!

Darn right. It's been used to determine world oil prices for over a decade!

You've obviously not been to a SC retreat yet.

Are you saying that SC are into flagellation or that the perks of retreats more than make up for it? ;)

They told me that was the perk ... :-(

I'm inclined to agree: the breakdown of voting yay/nay on DQs should remain anonymous, but openness and transparency in regard to individual bagel consumption within the SC will serve the common good.
