Or it could be that they are in one of the worst divisions in football! Not hard to win a division when you have the Cardinals, Niners and Rams in your division.

Is it because annoying advertisements keep floating over Seattle, and it's almost impossible to get rid of them?
09/11/2007 03:56:15 PM · #4
Naw. That can't be it. ;) Chicago doesn't suffer from the same problem and look at their division. Minnesota, Detroit, Green Bay? It's not obvious at all who's worse there.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure it has to do with the fact that Jimmy Johnson called us "South Alaska". At least that's what I tell myself.

I think he's referring to the geographical isolation and he may be onto something. I am thinking of starting an NFL franchise in Idaho or Oregon or maybe North Dakota. Any ideas for team names?

They usually skip over Cleveland on the weather channel.
That annoys me. OH ... football? ... no respect deserved!
09/11/2007 04:12:37 PM · #8
Could be the weather? or the fish smell drifting over from the market. Honestly, no team from the NFC gets any respect except the Bears and that's b/c of their defense. All the hype is in the AFC, and sadly, rightfully so. GO Lambs..er..Rams.

Why would you respect them? What have they done lately? Also Chicago is known for having one of the top 3 defense's in football. What is Seattle's strong point behind a questionable running back who is off and on and a quarterback who is always injured and not consistent. Don't worry the NFC sucks so they have a chance

If you're familiar with those United States at Night satellite composite shots, it's remarkable how consistently the distribution of NFL franchises mirrors the distribution of the population.

Still's it's a little jarring to see how isolated the poor Hawks are up there in the PNW. They're sorta the "australia" of the NFL.

I don't think it's remarkable. The NFL (and all pro sports leagues) put teams where the money, er ... consumers ... are.

What have they done lately? hmmm 3 division champs in a row maybe...if it sucks so bad why havent the cards done it?
Its all right doc, people here have griped about respect for a long time, i could care less as long as they have winning seasons, something alot of other teams (arizona) can't claim

Well, I'm not calling them NFC juggernaut's, but they are certainly among the NFC elite (except the NFC is sorta triple-A for the AFC).

But where are you getting your information there superdave? the same places the guys from SI are (ie. nowhere)? Hasseleck has missed 9 games in 8 years. That's "always injured"? And Shaun is "off and on"? He's rushed for 1100+ yards in 5 of the last 6 years.

This is the lack of respect I'm talking about. I'm not blaming you Dave, it's pretty pervasive.

whats so funny is if alexander was on any othere team those fans would defend him to the death, 2 yrs ago the record for touchdowns and mvp, but he breaks foot so suddenly hes a nobody, or has-been. whatever, i'll take a loss at the superbowl and the playoffs several years in a row over multiple losing seasons anyday

Do you need hook on phonics? Where in the world did i ever say cardinals are great? 3 division champions in a row equals nothing. Football is about the Superbowl! Winning seaons mean nothing unless you win the superbowl. Why do you think the coach of the chargers was fired? Only lost 2 games and didn't win the superbowl. Who cares what alexander did 2 years ago. Its about what have you done for me lately. This topic is about respect and thats why the seahwaks don't deserve it. Can't win the big game!

I wonder what the original process was to create teams. I bet it was more individual owners with cash on hand who got together to create a league.

Today, though, the league clearly go for the audience. LA is just an oddity.

Remember that the NFL is a TV sport. Why would people in LA want a team? Without a team, the LA market gets to choose from the best games broadcast and not get stuck watching a potentially lousy local team.

Actually, I believe that there is so much to do here in Southern California. On a Sunday afternoon, folks would rather be at the beach, mountain biking, skiing/snowboarding the local mountains, surfing, sight-seeing,going to Hollywood, Venice Beach, Disneyland, Huntington Beach (Surf City, USA), Beverly Hills, Catalina Island, Malibu, Newport Beach, etc, etc...

There's just too many other things going on here--that's the "oddity". ;-)

Green Bay is a somewhat different situation, since it is the only publically-held franchise -- when individual community members own the team they're apt to support it in larger percentages that the average urban populace.

i am sure you would think differently if the cards had done what the hawks had the last 5 yrs and for the record i could care less what the rest of the country thinks of the hawks, thats what being a fan is all about.
and if its all about superbowls then i guess we better yank guys like Earl Campbell, Eric Dickerson,Dan Marino and Barry Sanders out of the hall fame because THEY certainly deserve no respect

Hey, if you put the Hawks, Mariners and Blazers together, the Northwest almost has a whole team. :D

I'm just waiting for another strike year so the Redskins can win the Super Bowl again.
