I feel so stupid, but I have a teleconverter for my digicam and a step up ring got so stuck on it. I cannot for the love of God remove it.
Is there any technique you may know off how to loosen stuck rings?
thanks for any suggestions

The hardest part is being able to grip the ring since it's so narrow.
1. Hold the ring between your thumb and forefinge (forefinger on inside of ring) and try unscrewing the converter by twisting it instead of the ring. I've had to do this with mine a few times.
2. Try holding the ring with something rubbery (has friction) like something you'd use to open a jar with a stuck lid and twist the converter rather than the ring.

Hi
HTH if you have a good photographic store near you ask if the "filter grips" sorry this is not the right phrase but basically they are a bit like a minature pipe wrench - a quick search I found this //www.micro-tools.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=MTE&Product_Code=FLB-21-B
As you can see such a device allows much greater leverage and for removing stuck filters and the like you need 2 of them to reduce strain on the parts. One for the step up and one for the convertor - stating the obvious I know....?
Of course in the abscence of a nearby store you could buy your own!
Lastly, not knowing the construction of the teleconvertor or step up ring you could try the jam jar trick - use rubber bands to increase the grip and hope that you can hold each part firmly but gently etc.
Best of luck

Last time this happened to me I used a rubber mallet to straighten the threads and then it came off easily BUT first Identify that is the problem due to it just being tight OR you have screwed it a bit wrong

Put the ring flat on the plam of your hand to turn it, if you grip the sides it may flex. |

This guaranteed to work. Simply place the camera on a steady surface and apply one of these:

It may void any warranties though. ; )

Jon Lukas, btw, I really really like that image. :-))
Thanks for all the advice. I have tried a special rubber grip pad that I usually use if some jars are stuck, but even that didn't help. I don't want to damage either the lens nor the ring - both were not exactly cheep - Olympus stuff :-((
I think I will bring it to a store to someone pro to help me. This is actually not the first time. The rings are so sharp and tight.

I have used two rubber bands, one on the lens and the other on the ring. Also if you take the camera outside in the sun and let it warm up that may help. Good luck! |

Another one I've read about is to use the bottom of a rubber soled shoe in a similar manner to using the palm of your hand like robsmith suggested.
Place it flat against the ring (parallel to the lens glass) and untwist. |

Or use the rubber jar-opener pad in this manner.

You could strap the camera to a pneumatic drill which, when run long enough, should loosen most parts of the camera, including the bloody step-up ring. Place rubber jar opener in ears while operating drill.
May void the warranty as well.

Finally got it unstuck !!!
Thanks for all the advice. I found that patience worked the best with the rubber jar opener used to rock the ring back and forth, back and forth, until it got loosened.
You should see the blisters on my palm from this :-((
btw, Jon Lucas' advice would work well with my crashed computer too, LOL.
