Hi everyone,
I'm planning on going up to Napa for some shots the weekend of September 22-23 and wanted to see if others would like to turn this into a fun wine-filled GTG. It's just about harvest time, so there should be plenty of ripe red grapes and colorful vineyards to shoot. Any interest?
Philip

I'm out for the 22nd but might be able to make it up there on the 23rd for at least part of the day. Count me in as a definite maybe. Lots of great areas to shoot up there, though for some reason I always have a problem with focus ... |

Yeah, Napa has that effect on people. ;-)
I'm actually only planning to go up for one day, so if others want to come then we can choose whichever day works best for the group. Hope to see you there!

Bay Area DPCers should be getting home from work now and rushing to their computers to press the Update button. Perfect time to bump this thread...

Hey, I know that place! I lived in Yountville (9 miles from Napa) for a couple of years when I was growing up! I can't wait to see what it looks like now! You guys have to do this.
If you get to Yountville, you have to get a shot of The Webber House at Webber and Jefferson. Mrs. Webber (not her real name, but thats what the kids called her) used to invite all the kids in town over to carve pumpkins before halloween, on halloween she would light them all (hundreds). It was amazing! I'm not sure if they still do this, or if she's even still there, but it's worth checking out!
Oh, does anyone remember the suburban propane station fire/explosion(s) in, um, it must have been '92 or '93? I lived around the corner on Madison St. That was the scariest moment in my life! I'd love to know what happened with the Suburban site.
Man, I'm tepmted to fly over and join you. I wish I could. Have fun, I can't wait to see what you shoot! |

Hmmm.
I wuz gonna go on a three day motorcycle ride in the sierras, but, shoot, this may be better, and more affordable. Sunday's best for me.
Don't pencil me in yet, but I'm watching this thread...

Put me down as a definite maybe. Saturday is better than Sunday, but Sunday may work. I'm flying out of town on business Monday, so depending on how much last minute work I need to do, I may be able to make it.

I sure wish there was a way to be in two places at the same time, but I'm booked solid for that weekend. I was up that way recently and it's looking good. I may go up again on a weekday soon and try for some good grape scenes. |

Even though C_Steve_G didn't invite, nor inform me, of the 3 day motorcycle ride in the Sierras I would like to attend both ! Especially if we can still ride that way after the wine tasting/photo shoot...

Sounds like there's enough interest in this to put together a decent group. Let's see if some other people reply in the next day or two to determine the best date. I'll also start working on an itinerary, but all suggestions are very welcome.
Any northern California DPCers who have been asking to do a GTG farther north interested in coming? I'd love to meet you guys as well!

How about it? Anyone else interested in a Napa GTG? I personally guarantee a good time will be had by all. :-)

I'm not sure if there's enough interest in this to try and get together. Here's the response so far:
Rasai: Yes
macpapas: Maybe
C_Steve_G: Maybe
EstimatedEyes: Definite maybe
PhilipDyer: Yes
Does that sound right? Anyone else want to go shoot the wine harvest in Napa?

Just to make sure everyone knows, I'm no longer planning on going to Napa this weekend since there was so little response. We'll try for another GTG soon!

To add insult to injury, it's likely to rain, so that puts a "dampener" on my bike ride... |

Sure, Eve. There's also a Yahoo group here:
//tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/sfdpc/
People post notes in that group to announce GTGs as well.

I wish I could, Eve, but we have a Bar Mitzvah, a concert and the Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival all that weekend. It's a great time to go up there so I hope you have a chance to go!
