At first i thought that this was not your average garden variety caterpillar, but actually that is where I found it. What are the things on its back? Parasites?

I considered that but aren't the eggs laid by the moth or butterfly?

Those are parasitic wasp eggs on a tobacco horn worm.bugguide.net
Here is a shot with one hatching.
