Share your victims of crop, I can't be the only one!

I entered this in the Free Study (a bold move, it was only 640 pixels wide when I could have used 720, it had only basic editing when I could have used expert). It finished respectably at 6.1419. But most everyone who commented on it hated the crop. I figured going in there would be some comments on the crop. One kind commentor even suggested how I could improve it by pulling back when shooting to include the entire boat in the photo. Well, I did do that but then cropped it, see original here (resized only):

Why did I crop it like I did? I don't know, I guess I liked it! :)

Hello fellow Canadian!

I was a victim of crop in my first challenge entry. I was out of the country and didn't have the software to edit my photo before submitting.

I think the edited photo is much stronger.

Though it's not very high scoring but 3 out of 4 comments are about the crop

Have to agree with that commentator. Without the full bow it doesn't look like a real boat to me. You had to crop but I think you went a little too far. I gave it a 7. Probably an 8 with less crop.

It's a great crop, and I was pleased to find out that image was yours. I'm glad to see you going in that direction. And you got a 6+ score. I don't care what the commentors say, they don't even know how *they* would have voted without the crop.
