OK so I will start one one these endless discussions on how to interpret a challenge.

I think the challenge will be how to differentiate between whether the subject is actually opening or closing. If you shot a gate opening how do you show it wasn't actually in the process of closing? These two challenges are going to test our skills. Otherwise we will end up with a bunch of photos which will be suitable for either challenge.

Maybe get the subject to hold a sign that says...

"Hey...stooped voters...I am closing this gate!!!"

ROFLMFAO!!

I think these challenges will be chewed up and spat out by the DNMC police and the picky, argumentative...but oh so wonderful and smart and generous....yeah...you get the drift!!

LOL I will contribute to the endless discussion.

I can think of at least 2 things (one opening, one closing) that would not be the other, but I may try to shoot one or both, so I don't really want to tell you what they are, lol.

Something I thought of, and won't shoot (but wonder if anyone did) is yesterday's NFL game - it was Opening Day.

Also sometimes if you are inside (the fence or room or whatever), the door/gate seems to be closing, and if you are outside, it seems to be opening (at least it does to me). Another "help" psychologically is if it's almost there - a nearly closed door usually seems to be closing. The exception might be if the focus was on something (rays of light, smoke, maybe a cat) that was coming through that door. Then the door would seem to be opening.

I'll tell you right now, if I even have the slightest inkling that someone is trying to pass off a closing as an opening (or vice versa) I'll slap them with a

Oh, and the same goes for any photo with Bokeh, that is not in the Bokeh challenge.

sunset=closing
sunrise=opening
score for a good photo of either~6.2
score for a great photo of either=6.3 to 4th place
score of most photos of either 5.7
just my predictions :)

Well to avoid DNMC just make it super obvious. For example, a door swinging with motion blur indicating it's direction (i.e. use second curtain flash).

Maybe your DNMC train should hit you, instead.

Now that's just wrong on all accounts.

Will you DNMC any black and white photographs since this is not a B&W challenge? What about if there is a person (or people) in the photo, will you DNMC it because this is neither a candid or portrait challenge?

I would expect a better sense of humor from a fellow Pentax owner.

And to answer your other questions- yes, yes, yes.

And I will not eat green eggs and ham with Sam I am, but I will comment if I slap a 3 on your photo.

Oops! My bad. maybe a little smiley would have tipped me off. ;-)

I'm still reeling from the host of (uncalled for, IMO) DNMCs from my Fill the Frame challenge entey--sorry.

No problem, no offense taken. I had hoped the sheer insanity of my follow up post would tip it off.
