I am worried I might end up less than 6 on this one. Its a beautiful work. I love it (probably this is the reason it is tanking). |

I don't think it will be a filtered shot that wins, just my opinion. Using those filters is hard to do well. If it is I think it will be a subtle touch. I think of this challenge like the first Expert Editing challenge where the entries as a whole went a little crazy experimenting and here the filters are everywhere and very obvious. It should be interesting to see the results.

well I'm only on page one of voting (I allways vote on every entry) but allready my eyes hurt from the amount of (badly) used filters. I'm not speedvoting because I really want to look at each photo carefully.
but darn...it's a rough challenge this one.

finding the same thing...80% poor images with poor filter choices...there were a few standouts, but on the whole, not good.
I didn't use a filter and am glad...currently 6.4444 |

Just had a quick look and am very disappointed - this is still a photography site! I'm gonna give higher votes to all photos that aren't too obviously filtered and lower votes to images that have canvas textures and waterpainting filters applied.

I agree that there are a lot of over filtered shots (yeh I know that sounds rich coming from me) I use lucisart usually quite a bit but I don't feel that Impressionism in ART is the same as Impressionism within Photography. I spent the day with a very talented artist friend of mine and we looked at many books.. To me it is not about canvas effect and pastel filters and over the top smudgy, blurry shots. there are a few blur images that are outstanding though and kudos to those.

done voting.
lots of -5 I have to admit. Mine isn't doing all that great either, but I am so glad I didn't use any filters. Earlier on I said I should've used the heavily filtered outtake. Now I'm glad I didn't it's just too easy.
Take a photo, smack a few filters on top of it and presto! Impressionism!
I don't think so.
anyways...my own is sitting at:

I'm hoping it will climb when people see there's no filters.

Mine is a very simple shot and I used a filter but I don't think I over did the filter.

But obviously a lot of people do or have a totally different idea what impressionism is. |

After reading through all of this thread, I was really worried about my entry as I did apply a filter and it is quite obvious. Before entering I went through and looked at the previous impressionism challenge, and it was obvious in quite a few of the top scorers that filters were used so I felt comfortable entering mine. It is sitting in the high 5's which is where I expected it to be so I am quite happy with it. |

The last challenge was under different editing rules, I will be surprised if some of the photos in this challenge don't get DQ'ed because of the heavy filters they used (not saying yours is one of them).

After being disqualified for a 5th place image this morning (first time ever in nearly 140 challenges) I didn't take any chances with filters :-) I am glad...though my score was great, now running at 6.3XXX

Wasn't the last one under advance editing rules as well? |

No filters with mine. I'm very happy with the score so far and even happier that this challenge inspired me to get out and try something I've been meaning to do for a while.

Well the end of a pretty disapointing day, I had high hopes for this photo. No filter either but that does not make any difference as far as I'm concerned.
Started at 6.2 and dropped to here.

Yes but the rules have changed since then (2004).

So...as I have read this entire thread, I can't help but wonder...should we be voting down images, not just in the this challenge but in all challenges, that use post production to give that image a certain "look". The Dragonizer look, the use of Lucisart, any use of Virtual Photographer, Susi Lawson's technique (sorry Susi to drag you into this ;).
Photographers have always used different techniques to acheive the look that want. Whether if it's in the dark room or on the computer...we are still the artist. We choose what technique to use and how to make it look. I can tell you there were several versions of my entry, before deciding which one was my final.
There were a lot of nay sayers that said "impressionism is not art" when it was first seen...I guess some things never change.
As always, art is subjective.

OK well I used the last one as a guide to see what style people liked and followed our current advanced rules, read and reread them in fact and was happy that I wasn't breaking them. Anyway it will be good to see how everyone fares at the end of the challenge and what actually was DQ'd.
Has there been many requests for validation, does anyone know? |

Filter, smilter...you know sometimes if it looks like a filter was used, it MIGHT have been one that's attached to the camera lens. Special effects were being accomplished long before photoshop came along.
Just food for thought y'all. :)
